Chimney Rock NC is a small village located in Rutherford County near Asheville and Hendersonville in the western part of North Carolina.
A small village of about 110 people (down from 175 in 2010) and 3 square miles, the town gets its name from the 315-foot granite rock at the top of the adjacent mountain in Chimney Rock State Park. Chimney Rock and nearby Lake Lure are well-publicized by the local businesses as the filming locations for two Hollywood hit movies, The Last of the Mohicans and Dirty Dancing.
Lake Lure (the lake and town) is located just a few miles down the road from Chimney Rock. The lake is 720 acres and was created after the damming of the Broad River in the 1920s. As shown in the image above, It is the most prominent item viewed from the rock overlook at the top of the park.
